§ 407-169. Accessibility for Passengers Who are Deaf or Hard-of-Hearing.

Latest version.
  • (a)

The standards in this section are not required for a vehicle to meet the definition of an accessible vehicle. These standards are suggested for all public vehicles, not only for accessible vehicles, to ensure accessibility for passengers who are deaf or hard-of-hearing.

    (b)

Passengers in accessible vehicles who are deaf or are hard-of-hearing must be able to receive a message equivalent to the message received by people who are not deaf or hard of hearing. Public vehicles must incorporate assistive listening/audible information systems (i.e. voice to text, hearing loop, captioning).

    (c)

The public vehicle must provide a visual cue that the vehicle is pulling over for pick-up.
