§ 306-17. Special Assignments.

  • Whenever the appointing authority finds it necessary in the interest of efficient administration to assign an employee a responsibility beyond that of the employee's classification, the appointing authority may designate the employee to receive a special assignment premium in addition to regular compensation, but such designations shall be made in accordance with rules and regulations prepared by the personnel officer and approved by the city manager setting forth criteria to be met in order to qualify for a special assignment premium.

    The personnel officer shall review every proposed special assignment premium for (1) employees appointed by the city manager and (2) employees appointed by the various independent boards and commissions of the city, and shall approve all designations for special assignment premiums that are in conformance with the criteria set forth in the rules and regulations. No special assignment premiums shall be granted without such approval.

    The amount of such premium pay shall be determined by an evaluation of the additional responsibility assigned and shall be designated as follows:

    Special Assignment 1 - $.135 an hour ($5.40 a week)

    Special Assignment 2 - $.1636 an hour ($6.55 a week)

    Special Assignment 3 - $.22 an hour ($8.80 a week)

    Special Assignment 4 - $.305 an hour ($12.20 a week)

    Special Assignment 5 - $.39 an hour ($15.60 a week)

    Special Assignment 6 - $.475 an hour ($19.00 a week)

    Special Assignment 7 - (Building craftsmen assigned as Leadmen) - $.1038 an hour ($4.15 a week)

    Special Assignment 8 - (Painters assigned to painting building exteriors 40 feet in height or over, tanks under 40 feet in height, or bridges under 60 feet in height) - Permanent employee - $.132 an hour ($5.28 a week), Seasonal employee - $.15 an hour.

    Special Assignment 9 - (Spray Painter) - Permanent employee - $.377 an hour ($15.08 a week), Seasonal employee - $.40 an hour.

    Special Assignment 10 - (Painters assigned to painting tanks over 40 feet in height, or bridges 60 feet in height or more or employees assigned to sandblasting) - Permanent employee - $.572 an hour ($22.89 a week), Seasonal employee - $.65 an hour.

    Any such designation shall be temporary and terminable at the discretion of the appointing authority.
