§ 1221-7. Smoking and the Use of Open Flame.

  • Smoking and the use of open flame shall conform to the applicable provisions of Chapter 1225 and the following:

    (a)

    Smoking shall be strictly prohibited on any portion of the pier, wharf, marine terminal or in the bulkhead shed except in locations specifically designated as smoking areas and approved by the fire chief;

    (b)

    "NO SMOKING" signs shall be displayed throughout prohibited areas;

    (c)

    All fires, open flames or electric apparatus subject to sparking shall be extinguished or cut off before any loading or unloading operations of flammable liquids are started, except that fires under the power boilers may be maintained in order to supply the necessary and required power to properly operate the pumps and firefighting equipment;

    (d)

    Where necessary to conduct operations at night, lights shall be of the electric incandescent type with bulbs protected by wire cages. Portable lights shall be of approved safety type;

    (e)

    Not less than one deck officer, one engineer and a terminal representative shall be on duty at all times during the loading and unloading operations of vessels.
