Chapter 1221. PIERS, WHARVES AND OTHER MARINE TERMINALS |
§ 1221-5. Housekeeping.
(A)
Piers, wharves and other marine terminals shall be kept free of rubbish and waste materials. Such materials shall be kept in metal containers which shall be removed at sufficiently frequent intervals to prevent dangerous accumulations.
(B)
Ashes shall be wet down in the ash pit immediately after being drawn from the fire and placed in metal cans which shall be removed as quickly as possible.
(C)
Smoke pipes shall be thoroughly cleaned not less than once each year.
(D)
Trusses, girders and other structural members shall be cleaned regularly to eliminate accumulations of flammable dust.
(E)
Sampling of merchandise by consignees shall be restricted to a minimum and shall be carried on under the supervision of a competent representative of the pier, wharf or marine terminal operator. Care shall be taken to see that all packages are securely closed after sampling and that the material sampled has not been disturbed in a way that may cause fire. Refuse caused by sampling shall be removed immediately.
(F)
Approved metal waste cans with self-closing covers shall be provided in all map rooms, rigging rooms, garages, at electrical motors, winches, engines, and other locations where there is likely to be an accumulation of oily waste. The waste in these cans shall be removed daily.
