§ 1219-47. Hotplates.

  • Any hotplate closer than 12 inches to any combustible material shall have a metal shield with a two-inch air space between it and the combustible material. This shield shall extend six inches beyond the hotplate on both sides and shall extend 12 inches above the level of the hotplate. Any combustible material beneath a hotplate shall be protected by an insulated noncombustible sheet covered with metal extending six inches from both sides and front. In the rear it shall extend to the heat deflector.

    Shelving shall not be permitted less than a vertical distance of 36 inches over any hotplate.
