§ 1107-35. Qualifications of Operations of Elevators, Escalators, and Lifts

  • It shall be the duty and responsibility of all persons responsible for the operation or use of elevators, escalators, and lifts to restrict the actual use or operation of such equipment only to qualified operators, excepting such fully automatically controlled and approved equipment which is normally safe for operation by the public. Qualification of operators of such equipment shall include the following:

    (1) Each operator shall be not less than 18 years of age, and shall be selected with consideration for inherent ability to perform the duties of operation in a careful and competent manner.

    (2) No person without approved previous experience and less than one week's training under close and constant supervision of an experienced, competent, and careful passenger elevator operator, shall operate or be permitted to operate a passenger elevator.

    (3) No person, without approved previous experience and less than two day's training under close and constant supervision of an experienced, competent, and careful freight elevator operator, shall operate or be permitted to operate a freight elevator.
