§ 11. Acting City Manager

  • The city manager shall appoint assistant city managers who shall perform the duties of the city manager during the city manager's absence or disability and such other duties as may be requested by the city manager. During the absence, disability, or other unavailability of the city manager, the duties of the city manager shall be performed by an assistant city manager as designated by the city manager. An assistant city manager so designated shall be fully authorized to act on behalf of the city manager and to perform the duties of the office.

    During the absence of the city manager, when the appropriate assistant city manager is absent, disabled, or otherwise unavailable, the duties of the city manager shall be formed by a city officer designated by the city manager to perform the duties during the city manager's absence.

    During the disability of the city manager, when the appropriate assistant city manager is absent, disabled, or otherwise unavailable, the duties of the city manager shall be performed by another assistant city manager or a department director designated in accordance with a line of succession which the city manager shall file in writing with the clerk of council. Such designation may be amended at any time by the city manager or by the council.

    For purposes of this section, and without limiting the general meaning of the term, "disability" shall include vacancy in office.
